Story time
The Fly on the Wall
There was a fly on the wall,
that lived in the hall.
He listened to the buzzin'
While spying on his cousin,
So, he could spread the gossip
to his friend the opossum,
who asked him where he heard,
to which he replied, "A little bird."
The bird thought this was unfair,
because he hadn't told that anywhere!
"They always think it's me," he said,
as he got embarrassed, and his face turned red.
"If I had a secret,
you better believe I'd keep it!
I wouldn't tell a soul,
not a rabbit or a mole!"
The opossum didn't make a peep.
He was pretending to be asleep,
because anytime he'd hear a squabble,
his knees would shake, and he'd start to wobble.
"Oh wait, that's right," the fly said,
"I got it mixed up in my head.
I heard it from the horse,
straight from his mouth, of course!"
"Whoa!" the horse replied.
"You must hear my side!
I only speak the truth.
I haven't gossiped since my youth!"
"Then suddenly the fly's cousin arrived.
He shouted, "Who's been telling these lies?"
"Don't ask me," the opossum insisted.
"I'm just over here minding my own business."
"It wasn't me," said the bird.
"It's not like me to spread a word."
"I will tell you the truth," said the horse.
"I always do, of course.
Fly! It's time you must confess.
I think you must sort out this mess."
"OK, OK, it was me," said the fly.
"I just can't keep up with these lies.
I was spying on you cousin,
inside, while you were fussin'.
Then I came and told the opossum what I'd heard,
and blamed it on the little bird.
When that didn't work of course,
I blamed it on the horse.
That didn't work either, I'm afraid.
Oh, what a mess I've made!
When I repeated your story
(and I found it quite boring!)
I just couldn't resist.
I felt it needed a twist,
So, I made it more awesome
when I told the opossum.
I am really ashamed
of all whom I blamed.
I hope you will forgive me,
oh, how grateful I will be!
I promise never to lie again.
I really didn't mean to offend.
It wasn't my intention after all,
but hey, I'm just a fly on the wall!"
